It’s 6:30pm in Sydney when I dialinternational to speak to Lucia Pica, CHANEL Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer. Ten thousand miles away, it’s a lazy 10:30AM in Paris, which means Parisians are just kicking off their work day. Pica, with her slinky French accent, tells me she’s excited to be talking to Gritty Pretty about her new collection—and with good reason. “I was inspired to create a collection based on the tactile feel and texture of matte but not in a dry type of way – think of the most luxurious cashmere,” says Pica. What really set the ranges apart however is the new Liquid Powder – six poppy shades in a powdery consistency, which morphs upon contact with the lips to deliver a blur-matte effect. Before you can say, “Shut up and take my money”, swipe left to see the new high-voltage hues put to the test.
ROGUE AWAKENING
CHANEL Australia makeup artist Victoria Baron intentionally created a stark contrast between this rich burgundy pout and barely there base. “The lips are the focus, so by holding back in certain areas of the face, what you’re doing is highlighting another,” she explains.
PINK FLOYD
Baron offset this diffused matte lip with a sheer tint of colour on the cheeks and brushed-up brows. “Take a cotton tip to slightly blend out the edges, then apply additional colour concentrated only on the centre of the lips for added intensity,” she says.

IN THE NUDE
Baron dusted a soft highlighting powder along the temples and the T-zone to add dimension and boost glow. Using the tip of the sponge applicator of CHANEL’s new Rouge Allure Liquid Powder as the guide for the lip line, Baron says to apply it to the edges first, then the centre of your pout. Once dry, pop on another coat to achieve this flawless, opaque finish.
